The Beckett Heritage Property depicts a typical fisherman's home during the early 1900's with it's popular mansard roof. The property includes a root cellar, well, small barn, hen house and associated vegetable garden where the Becketts grew potatoes, turnip, carrots, beets, and rhubarb. The wood house, stable, and hen's pen were modified but its present form still reminds us of fisherman's self-sufficient life-style in this area. The home has a kitchen, pantry, parlor and bedroom restored and furnished as it was in 1902. The rest of the rooms are used as a Veterans Gallery, a Fishermans Gallery, and two rooms to display general artifacts.

This house was built in 1902 by George Barrett Sr. for his son George Johosaphat Barrett who lived there until 1919 with his wife Laura nee Smith and their five children. It was then sold to fisherman Henry Roger (Harry) Beckett and his wife Genevra in 1919 who occupied the home until their death in 1988 and 1990 respectively.

The property was passed on to the Heritage Committee by Harry and Genevra Beckett's children Freda Hopkins and Ernest Beckett.

The building was designated as a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador on September 15th, 2001, and was restored in the summer of 2002.

The restoration of the Beckett Property proved to be an exciting project for the community of Old Perlican, as well as an interesting bit of architectural archaeology as the hidden roof and dormers were returned to the light of day.

The Beckett Heritage Home and the fish store are both used as a museum and house artifacts that were used by typical Old Perlican fisherman in their everyday work activities.
